Ice fishing by snowmobile in Kiruna

Imagine that Kiruna municipality covers a total area of app. 20.000 sqkm. Think about that in this part of Lapland there is a population density of only app. 1 human/sqkm. Keep in mind that there's NO industry outside the town. Believe us that there are more than 6200 freshwater lakes on this area - so clean that you can drink from all of them. Take a snowmobile, a fishing rod, follow out there - pike, perch, trout, grayling and arctic char are waiting under the ice. Two people share one snowmobile and take turns with driving and sitting. After safety instruction and introduction in to driving a snowmobile you will be equipped with warm clothes befor you can steer the snowmobiles off the beaten tracks near the Kalix river. Take a break by a calm lakeside and enjoy lunch by a warming campfire. Drill a hole through the ice with an ice drill and try your luck! With success you can choose if you want to just catch & release or if you want to enjoy your fish directly fried on the open fire.
