Kiruna snowmobile weektour
Don't you dare to go it all the way ? Not for the faintharted. But average fit adventurers will feel the freedom and routined motorcyclists will enjoy long daily stages without any insects hitting the visor. When you will have experienced your first blizzard in the mountains you will feel strong. If you meet moose and reindeer in the forest you'll feel close to nature. If a long day ends with a hot sauna your brain & soul will feel clean. If you fall to sleep in a rustic but cozy wilderness camp it will feel luxurious. If the next day starts with the smell of coffee prepared on a wood-fired stove you'll simply feel good. You will discover different and landscapes and vegetation zones - all the way from the huge forest areas around Kiruna to the rough and windy high tundra regions in the north west. Get a deeper feeling for this borderless, snowy scenery and travel through areas that can just be reached in wintertime. Experience how the different snow and trail conditions will challenge your driving skills from day to day! Your accommodation on this tour will be mostly in simple cabins, some of them provide electricity, but all of them without running water and very cozy. In almost all of these cabins you can enjoy the great relaxation of a hot sauna after a long day in the cold!

Day 1: We will pick you up from Kiruna/Airport and bring you to the snowmobile base outside Kiruna. Here your guide will give you all the concrete details of the trip and present you itenerary. He will provide you as well with all the necessary equipment. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2:After breakfast you will get all the important security and operating instructions about handling snowmobiles.Then you will start your tour with a long 90 km ride to the beautiful wilderness lodge „Lappesuando“ which is located south of Kiruna, between the two rivers Kalix and Kaitum. This route will give you a first glimpse of the sheer size and beauty of Lapland's forest areas with countless frozen rivers and lakes. Overnight in small cabins.
Day 3:After breakfast, we head off towards a wilderness camp at lake “Väkärääjärvi“.(app.90km). Here you have the chance to try your luck in ice fishing before dinner.
Day 4: Today we will head north towards „Övre Soppero“ - a village mainly populated by Sami. We will spend the night in the lodge of some Sami-friends. The distance to go is app. 75km. After having a later lunch at our destination for the day, there will be the option for another stage during the afternoon to a nearby mountain to enjoy a spectacular view over the area arround Soppero.
Day 5: From Soppero we will continue our tour over „Järämä“ to the mountain destination „Kamasjaure“. This stage will be app. 120 km long and the trail will lead us first through vast, hilly birch forest but then heads higher up above the timberline to the high-plateaus of the tundra. We will spend the night in a basic cabin with a fantastic view towards the Norwegian mountains!
Day 6: We'll go back back towards the snowmobile base by passing several lakes and the Torne River.( This stage is app. 100km). Depending on our arrival time you have the possibility to visit the Icehotel in the afternoon.
Day 7: Breakfast and transfer to airport or railroad station. Departure

General information: The minimum age for this tour is 18 years and a valid car or motorbike drivers licence is necessary. Every guest will drive his own snowmobile. In case of damage we have an excess fee from up to 6.000 SEK!
Transfers from and to Kiruna airport or train station
Additional winter clothing (overall, hat, mittens, winterboots) and equipment
2 overnight stays at the snowmobile base
4 overnight stays in wilderness camps
Thermo underwear, both long-johns as well as longsleeved shirt
Several pairs of warm socks
Suntan lotion and sunglasses
An extra pair of shoes to wear in the cabins in the evening
Rucksack or duffle bag (suitcases are difficult to transport)
Scarf / buff
Maybe a good book to read in the evenings
A liner for the sleeping bags in the cabins and a headtorch
Please keep in mind not to bring clothing made of cotten, as cotten does not keep you warm. This is especially important when it comes to socks and thermal underwear! The higher the wool content the better!
